Fitness Testing & Coaching
Advanced Methods to Help You Thrive
As a medically based fitness facility, we will help you create a lifelong habit of health and fitness! All members receive a complimentary personalized program design, fitness profile and wellness check. For more information or to schedule your appointments, please call the Exercise Physiology department at (559) 624-3450.
Program Design (Allow 1 hour)
Taking advantage of this complimentary appointment will put you one step closer to achieving your health and fitness goals! You will be coached by an exercise physiologist who will design a custom fitness program to accommodate your health and fitness needs. Members will receive both a cardiovascular and resistance training program (if appropriate), as well as aerobic and aquatic class recommendations.
Our goal is to provide you with a safe, effective, and personalized program while answering all of your questions.
Periodic Updates
We are always here for you. Let us help you set short-term goals along the way. By having your fitness program re-assessed by one of our exercise physiologists every six to eight weeks, we will be able to help modify your program based on the progress you’ve made to date. Periodic updates help keep you focused on the long-term goal while warding off boredom and the dreaded exercise plateau.
Fitness Profile (Allow 1 hour)
To identify baseline measurements that help you track your progress on your health and fitness journey, take advantage of our fitness profile. An exercise physiologist can help you discover your strengths and weaknesses in the five areas that encompass your fitness.
These areas include:
- Resting pulse rate and blood pressure
- Flexibility
- Strength
- Aerobic (cardiovascular) fitness
- Body composition and/or measurements
- Athletic performance testing (available upon request)
Every 8-10 weeks it is important to have your fitness profile updated by one of our exercise physiologists to help you track your progress on your health and fitness journey.
Wellness Check (Allow 30 Minutes)
After reviewing your health history, we will measure your height, weight, resting heart rate, and blood pressure. You may also take advantage of cholesterol and blood glucose screenings at no additional cost. This will require a small sample of blood (finger stick) and we recommend at least a 3-hour fast. This is a non-diagnostic screening. Members with abnormal results will be asked to follow-up with their primary physician.
For more information or to schedule your appointments, please call the Exercise Physiology department at (559) 624-3450.
Body Composition
The Kaweah Health Lifestyle Fitness Center offers many different ways for members to measure their percentages of fat, muscle, bone, and water present in their bodies. Muscular tissue takes up less space in our body than fat tissue therefore our body composition as well as our weight, determines our leanness. These measurements are important because they help you understand your individual body composition.
Skinfold Measurements
Skinfold measurement is an effective way to measure the amount of subcutaneous fat proportional to the total amount of body fat. Three-, four-, or seven-site skinfold measurements are taken with a caliper and then used to determine your percent body fat and lean mass. Ultrasound Body Fat Analysis
Our BodyMetrix™ ultrasound system can calculate body fat percentage using the same anatomical sites used in traditional caliper tests. However, the ultrasound is able to penetrate both superficial and deep adipose tissue layers giving you a more accurate reading than traditional caliper tests. FLOATAWEIGH™ Hydrostatic Weighing
(Offered the first Saturday of the month from 8 am – 12 pm)
Hydrostatic weighing is considered by many to be a gold standard method
of assessing the fat content in a living human body. It is based on Archimedes’
principle which states that a body displaces a volume of water equal to
the volume of the body, and the decrease in weight of a body when immersed
in water is equal to the weight of the displaced water. A person having
more bone and muscle mass and less fat will weigh more in water, which
means a lower percent body fat.

Medical Fitness Integration
A medical-fitness facility is a subset of both the healthcare industry and the fitness industry; operating on both ends of the continuum of care through prevention and treatment of chronic disease. As such, The Kaweah Health Lifestyle Fitness Center remains committed to helping our members improve their health and well-being. Our team of Exercise Physiologist are academically and professionally trained to work with special populations.
Phase II Pulmonary Rehabilitation – Breathing Easy
This is the next step in whole body exercise specifically for pulmonary
patients. Participants’ blood oxygen levels are monitored during
cardiovascular exercise. In addition to cardiovascular exercise, participants
will also complete a resistance exercise segment using various resistance
modalities led by an Exercise Physiologist. This class is specifically
for anyone who has completed Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation. You
must be a member of The Kaweah Health Lifestyle Fitness Center in order
to participate in the Breathing Easy Program.
Phase III Cardiac Rehabilitation – Healthy Heart
This class is specifically designed for the post cardiac rehab patient.
The class includes warm-up, stretching, weight resistance exercises and
your choice of cardiovascular exercise. Participants can have their blood
pressure checked every Wednesday. You must be a member of The Kaweah Health
Lifestyle Fitness Center to participate in the Healthy Heart Class.
Wellness Club for Cancer Survivors
If you are recovering from cancer treatment such as chemotherapy, exercise
can be a safe feasible intervention. Exercise can help alleviate many
symptoms associated with treatment, such as cancer related fatigue. This
10-week complimentary membership requires a physician referral. One of
our Exercise Physiologist will tailor an independent exercise program
specifically for you.
