 Program Design (Allow 1 hour)

Taking advantage of this complimentary appointment will put you one step closer to achieving your health and fitness goals! An Exercise Physiologist who will be your fitness coach will design a custom fitness program to accommodate your health and fitness needs. Members will receive both a cardiovascular and resistance training program if appropriate at that time as well as aerobic and aquatic class recommendations. Our staff will instruct you on the proper use of a variety of fitness equipment. Our goal is to provide you with a safe, effective and personalized program while answering all of your questions.

  Periodic Updates

We are always here for you. Let us help you set short-term goals along the way. Every 6-8 weeks it is important to have your fitness program re-assessed by one of our Exercise Physiologists . This will enable us to help modify your program based on the progress you’ve made to date. Periodic updates help keep you focused on the long-term goal while warding off boredom and the dreaded exercise plateau.

Fitness Profile (Allow 1 hour)

If you would like to have baseline measurements taken to help you track your progress on your health and fitness journey, you will want to take advantage of our Fitness Profile. An Exercise Physiologist can help you discover your strengths and weaknesses in the five areas that encompass your fitness:

  • Resting Pulse Rate and Blood Pressure
  • Flexibility
  • Strength
  • Aerobic (Cardiovascular) Fitness
  • Body Composition and/ or Measurements
  • Athletic Performance Testing (Available upon request)

Every 8-10 weeks it is important to have your Fitness Profile updated by one of our Exercise Physiologists to help you track your progress on your health and fitness journey.

Wellness Check  (Allow 30 Minutes)

After reviewing your health history, one of our certified medical assistants will measure your height, weight, resting heart rate, and blood pressure.  You may also take advantage of cholesterol and blood glucose screening at no additional cost.  This will require a small sample of blood (finger stick) and we recommend at least a 3-hour fast. This is a non-diagnostic screening.  Members with abnormal results will be asked to follow-up with their primary physician.

Body Composition

In physical fitness, body composition is used to describe the percentages of fat, bone, water and muscle in human bodies. Because muscular tissue takes up less space in our body than fat tissue, our body composition as well as our weight, determines leanness. Two people of same sex and body weight may look completely different from each other because they have a different body composition.

The Lifestyle Center offers several different types of screenings to determine body composition.

lange-calipersSkinfold Measurements

Three, four or seven site skinfold measurements taken with a caliper which are used to determine your percent body fat and lean mass. The principle behind skinfold measurement is that the amount of subcutaneous fat is proportional to the total amount of body fat. ultrasound-body-compUltrasound Body Fat Analysis

Our new BodyMetrix™ ultrasound system can calculate body fat percentage using the same anatomical sites used in traditional caliper tests. However, the ultrasound is able to penetrate both superficial and deep adipose tissue layers giving you a more accurate reading than traditional caliper tests. Click here to learn how to prepare for your Ultrasound Body Fat Analysis.

floataweighFLOATAWEIGH™ Hydrostatic Weighing

(Offered the first Saturday of the month from 8 am – 12 pm)
Our new hydrostatic weighing system utilizes Archimedes’ principle, which states that (1) a body displaces a volume of water equal to the volume of the body, and (2) the decrease in weight of a body when immersed in water is equal to the weight of the displaced water. Density of fat is less than that of water and contributes to the buoyancy force. Density of bone and muscle tissue is greater than that of water and will cause a person to sink or be heavier in water. So, a person having more bone and muscle mass and less fat will weigh more in water, which means a lower percent body fat. Click here to learn how to prepare for your Hydrostatic Weighing test.
